Support the Star Students

Overview

Three years ago, this school was entrusted by the Education Bureau to establish an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Special Unit for ASD students with average intelligence but severe behavioural problems (our STAR students). Since then, a special bond has formed between us. Every day, our unit tried our best to cooperate and provide various support to help the growth of our STAR students. This school promoted a whole-school approach and a 3-tier intervention model; individualised social adjustment training and professional support were served with team-based learning among unit members. Finally, ASD Special Unit is well received by the Education Bureau.

The team believes in love, believes in the team, and believes in the ability to try everything unexpected. This seminar will highlight how the implementation of different approaches and the strengths of this school help facilitate the design of individual education plans (IEP) and support the STAR students from this school to overcome their limitations and nurture their personal growth. The speakers are the Head of the Academic Panel who has served in the School for Social Development (SSD) for 28 years; the Coordinator of ASD Special Unit who has served in SSD for more than 13 years; and the Teaching Assistant who has served in ASD Special Unit more than three years.
