Architecture for Learning that Facilitates Evolution of Educational Innovations

InnoSTEMer (Seminar)

Overview

The SDL-STEM pedagogical innovation (i.e. implementing STEM education using self-directed learning as the pedagogical approach) was initiated in this school in 2017. A carefully designed architecture for learning (i.e. orchestrated interaction mechanisms, organisational structures, people, technology and artefacts to facilitate learning at multiple levels) was then in place to facilitate the learning and decision making of the multilevel SDL-STEM team, including teachers, middle managers and school leaders.

In this seminar, the speaker will share how the SDL-STEM innovation has evolved to become a new set of curriculum that aims at developing students’ 21st century competences. They will also share the design principles of their learning architecture e.g. a strong focus on inquiry and the space for exploration; details of the interaction mechanisms and organisation structures that they have adopted to facilitate aligned and innovation-focused learning at multiple levels, the various strategies that they have used to scale up the innovation and some practical tips on making its evolution possible.
