Design Thinking in Arts Education: Bringing Stop Motion Animation to Visual Art Lessons

21st Century Classroom

Overview

The new normal for the mode of learning means a more diverse and creative approach in teaching / learning methodology. Students are no longer confined to the receiving end of information. Rather, the new normal calls for a more interactive dynamics and proactive learners, which could also be identified as the creators.

This open lesson aims to showcase the concept of Persistence of Vision, with the help of Stop Motion Studio software application. The use of common STEM learning tool, ‘Tublock’, will allow students to create a video content from scratch.

The use of technology as a learning tool will also be showcased in this open lesson. Participants will have the chance to experiment with the diverse e-learning tools and hopefully will come up with new and fun teaching method. Students will be using Tublock to build their own character(s) for the video, which will then be shot with stop-motion shooting technique to showcase their creation. The instructor will lead with the participants by using Stop Motion Studio to shoot a stop-motion video. This will allow participants to use their creativity, through Tublock, to build and create their own character(s) for the purpose of the video making.
This offers a unique experience for the participants to STEM into the diverse eLearning methodologies.
